Egyptian striker Mostafa Mohamed continues his mysterious absence from French side Nantes, in a remarkable development that casts a shadow over the team’s preparations for the new season in the second division, after he missed the first friendly against Fleury, which ended in a crushing 5-0 win.

Ouest France newspaper said the player’s absence, which has continued since training resumed on June 24, could be linked to disputes over his pay cut following the club’s relegation to the second division.

Technical director Michel Der Zakaryan expressed his extreme bewilderment about the created situation, saying in his statements after the game. “Mustafa… I have never seen anything like this.
