Naga Munchetty is leaving BBC Breakfast after 17 years on television to become a co-presenter of Radio 5 Live’s breakfast show.

Current 5 Live Breakfast co-hosts Rachel Burden and Rick Edwards announced on Tuesday’s show that they will be stepping down in December.

Munchetty, who has presented the radio program on weekdays since 2021, will be going to 5 Live Breakfast with a new partner who will be signed up soon. BBC he said.

The move comes after reports that Munchetty faced allegations of bullying on breakfast TV. There has been no thought of him moving and his statements are consistent.

The BBC was contacted for comment, but at the time of the allegations it said: “We have no comment on HR matters.”

Munchetty said of her move: “I’m delighted to be joining 5 Live Breakfast in January. Live news, great conversation and connecting with the audience is what I love most about radio, and 5 Live does it all wonderfully.

“It was a great privilege to be part of the BBC Breakfast TV team for the past 17 years, work together and create skill and effort a group of journalists who are not close friends and good friends.

“Presenting a popular show on 5 Live is an opportunity that was too good to pass up. It will take a lot of work and will require 100% of my focus and energy, and I’m really looking forward to throwing myself into the role.

“Over the past five years, I’ve had the opportunity to build relationships with 5 Live’s mid-morning audience and help shine a light on the issues that matter most to them.” I’m excited to expand that into the Breakfast slot and start each day with our listeners every morning.

“From now until January, I will continue to show two programs that I like.

Burden will move to the mid-morning show, Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., after 15 years on the morning show, while Edwards will continue to front Fight the Talk on Saturday mornings.

It was revealed earlier this month that Munchetty earned between $360,000 and $364,999 in the 2025-26 financial year.
