Musk’s X poses a “serious threat to American privacy,” activists have warned the FTC



Ahead of the July 2 deadline for public comment, advocates are warning The Federal Trade Commission that it should closely monitor Elon Musk’s X and strongly reject a soon to end the commission’s investigation about data management on the platform.

Last month, the FTC sent a notice explaining that X argued that the FTC rule was no longer necessary due to Musk’s changes to the platform.

The original order came as a penalty after the FTC found that a typographical error caused Twitter to wrongly share user information in ads that were sent for verification on two counts. Under the law, X is subject to independent review, and the FTC has the power to compel documents to ensure compliance with privacy laws without taking any action.
