Star Thomas Müller, the 2014 World Champion with Germany, confirmed that the German national team has a great collective strength that allows it to perform strongly in the 2026 World Cup.
While attending an event for a new business partner in Munich, Muller (36) commented on the injury to young star Lennart Karl, who returned from the US after his absence from the World Cup was confirmed, and the impact it had on the national team’s tally.
“It’s bittersweet for Lenny, but in Germany we rarely depend on one player.”
The veteran striker added that Germany’s chances “have not changed much” since Karl’s injury, noting that the team has a great depth of options, especially in the attack line. “We would like to see him on the world stage. We felt he was ready and maybe he could even start. He is energetic and brings good to the game which we need. But we also have a lot of other very good players. Especially in attack, we are very diverse and each player has different abilities.”
Muller explained that the current squad looks more like the one before the 2010 World Cup than the 2014 squad, as the road now begins in the construction phase.

Muller, who will watch the World Cup this time from the position of a television analyst, noted that he has great confidence in the German team, “but it is not possible to reach the point that we will reach the finals”, as he said.
Muller, on the other hand, praised coach Julian Nagelsmann’s decision to bring in Leipzig’s Asane Ouedraagui instead of Said El Molla, calling the decision “completely understandable,” as the coach explained.
Notably, Germany is in Group Five with Curaçao, Ivory Coast and Ecuador at the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico and kicks off next Thursday.
