Senegalese football is on a hot plate after the Teranga Lions’ early exit from the World Cup finals.

Senegal started their World Cup campaign with defeats in their first two games against France and Norway before turning things around to beat Iraq and advance to the round of 32 in the top three.

In the Round of 32 match against Belgium, Sadio Mane’s team-mates led until the 86th minute with an unanswered brace to start the European side’s revolt, winning 3-2 after extra time.

The early dismissal sparked anger on the streets of Senegal, prompting the Football Association to sack coach Pape Tiau and his assistant technical staff.

The crisis did not end there, but anger intensified, some interesting things emerged, which turned into “scandals”.

Senegalese fans were hoping to go far at the World Cup after a strong performance by the Teranga Lions at the Africa Cup of Nations, but the Moroccan curse appears to have damaged Senegalese football after the famous Cannes final crisis.

Senegal won the CAF final with a clean sheet after extra time, but CAF later decided to strip the Lions of Teranga of the title and give it to Morocco after the chaos of the exit.
