Morocco coach. We have no substitutes… and this task is more important than winning

The Moroccan national team kicked off the 2026 World Cup with a convincing win over Madagascar in a friendly 4-0 away match at the Moulay Abdella Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday night.

The Atlas Lions leveled the scoreline early thanks to the brilliance of Ismail Sibari, who scored twice, before Sofiane Rahimi and Ayoub El Kaabi added two more to confirm Morocco’s superiority.

In his statements after the match, the coach of the Moroccan national team, Mohamed Webe, emphasized that the victory was not the only goal, but also to get out without injuries by applying clear technical ideas.

“In this group, we don’t differentiate between a starting player and a substitute. We have no substitutes. Everyone is a starter for me. There are those who start and there are those who finish, and everyone knows his role. More important than the fact that we won is to avoid injuries.”

He explained that the technical staff asked the players to increase the tempo and play hard, despite the end of the season ending more than two weeks ago for most of them;

Webb acknowledged that there is room for improvement. “There are details that need to be ironed out, but what was presented today is an important step in our project, not an end point.”

The Lions coach concluded his statements. “The immediate focus will be on the next friendly against Norway as it is an important stop before the upcoming clash with Brazil at the start of the World Cup in Morocco.”
