Felda dreams of a historic meeting
Spanish coach Jorge Villeda, who supervises the training of the Moroccan women’s national team, expressed his desire for the upcoming World Cup, which will start next Thursday in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Velda emphasized that the next World Cup will be unprecedentedly open to all possibilities, especially after the list of participating teams is increased to 48, which will open the door to more interesting surprises compared to previous tournaments.
The Spanish coach, who previously led his country’s women’s team to victory at the 2023 World Cup, said the new system would make teams’ path to gold rougher and tougher as it would force those who qualified for the final to play an extra match in the knockout stages, increasing the chance of surprises and reducing the gap between teams.
Velda stressed that the knockout matches are radically different from the group stage, as the result is decided in just one match, which opens the way for completely unexpected results, adding that teams aspiring to lift the trophy need an ideal combination of high technical quality, success and favorable circumstances.

As for Morocco and Spain’s chances, the Velda coach said in a statement on Moroccan website Hesport that the two teams include an elite group of players capable of competently competing at the highest international levels, stressing his determination that they will advance to the very advanced stages of the tournament and he even dreams of them collecting their historic feat.
Moroccan football continues to shine at all levels. After Qatar 2022 finished fourth at the World Cup, the under-20 team won the World Cup in Chile late last year, boosting the Atlas Lions’ ambitious bid for greater success in 2026 under coach Mohamed Wehbe.
