Morocco and Argentina are a global barrier to European hegemony

In the round of 16, Morocco defeated Canada by three

European teams imposed their dominance in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as six teams from the old continent managed to retain their places in the top eight, a number not achieved in more than 3 decades.

In the current season, which was held in the USA, Canada and Mexico, 6 European teams qualified for the quarter-finals.

This is the first time since the 1994 World Cup held in the USA in a tournament held outside of Europe, when 7 European teams made it to this stage.

On the other hand, the representation of the rest of the continents was limited to only two teams: Argentina (South America) and Morocco (Africa).

Argentina and Morocco also became the only non-European teams to remain at the World Cup, for the second time in a row, after the same scene was repeated in the previous match, starting in the semi-finals.

Argentina will face Switzerland in the quarter-finals, while Morocco will face their French counterpart in a bid to break European dominance and continue their path to the title.
