Back in 2015, the two-man studio Metanet was released N++A brutally intense 2D platformer that was ten years in the making, building on previous releases starting with the free Flash title. N. At the time, co-founder Raigan Burns gave a famous last word: “We believe there are 10 years left before we make a game.” But now here we are, ten years later, and N they are getting another result. And this time the focus is on more sports.
The new game is called, absurdly, N Plus Infinity Times Two. Right now N++ was designed to be the ultimate version of the single game a N Conceptually, the game is described as “an armchair party game with a low level of skill and no skill.” This means the same action, great platforming and graphically enhanced visuals, but now built around playing competitively or cooperatively with friends across multiple modes. It’s launching on PS5, Xbox, Switch 2, and PC sometime in 2027.
The two at Metanet have had a few different experiences over the past 11 years. In addition to being moved from Toronto to Montreal, they have been developing ideas for several potential projects, and last year they were released. 10 year renewal for N++. But then, “We started getting the ‘let’s do it again’ bug in 2022,” Burns said. Seaside.
The studio operates in an unusual way, at least compared to most game companies. Although he had two hits inside N+ and N++Metanet has not grown or scaled in any way. And the reason comes down to how they make games: It just takes a lot of time to find a game idea that deserves to be followed as a commercial project. “We refused to do anything that would compromise our ability to continue to iterate and show until the good stuff came out,” says Burns.
“It’s important to feel the magic,” co-founder Mare Sheppard adds. “That’s what drives the game. That’s when we know we’re doing it the right way for us.” Burns has a clear metaphor for how he works: “We like to be part of a team. It’s fun. Being in a lot of meetings and doing a lot of administrative work: not fun.” This philosophy seems to be particularly popular because of the way companies play, where even the greatest music works in an unstable way.

In the case of N Plus Infinity Times Two – unfortunately I can’t think of a better way to summarize the title – the spark came partly from watching how young players interact with games. Even when playing alone, kids often chat with their friends on the phone, which turns everything into a multiplayer game. Burns and Sheppard wanted to find a way to marry that idea with the couch co-op experience they grew up with, which led to their return. N concept but with many spins.
The two describe the production N++ as a boring experience. If you think this game is hard, just try it again and again. Part of the excitement of N Plus Infinity Times Two It wasn’t just about finding a mod that would be fun to play, but also about development. “They really look like we’re having fun,” Burns said. “We know this one instrument very well.” So, now the fun challenge is playing new styles of music that we haven’t played before, but because of that we feel comfortable with it.”
As the entertainment industry from sports to Hollywood expands, Burns also believes that there is something important in doing work that is different, even if it means revisiting previous ideas, such as through multiple forms of N. It’s similar to titles like Hades II and Silksong: indie-made sequels that repeat the concept of the original, but with a new angle that made them more than a by-the-numbers sequel. “Being alone is fun and exciting,” Burns explains. “But honestly I think it’s good business to do what you can do, because then you don’t have competition.”
What will happen next N Plus Infinity Times Twothe two are apparently not revealing anything right now. There are several big 3D game ideas kicking around, but these would require expansion that the studio has avoided. What they won’t close the door on, however, is returning to the idea N again at some point in the future.
Sheppard said: “If we can do things that show new things, or allow us to see things in a different way, or if we have a different idea about the game or how we can play it, it’s really fun. “I think we don’t think this will be the last one. We have abandoned that idea. It shouldn’t be.”
