More than 15,800 people killed in Russia’s war in Ukraine: UN | News of the Russia-Ukraine war

About 800 children are among those killed in Ukraine since Russia’s February 2022 coup, the UN says.

The United Nations says 15,850 people, including 791 children, have been killed in Ukraine since Russia annexed the neighboring country in February 2022.

“The real numbers are much higher”, Kayoko Gotoh, director for Europe and Central Asia of the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA), told the UN Security Council on Tuesday.

Peace talks have stalled between Ukraine and Russia. US President Donald Trump tried to mediate and announced the latest three-day ceasefire earlier this month, but the fight has resumed.

Tuesday’s Russian attack on Ukraine killed at least six people.

A 15-year-old boy was one of three people killed in Russian missile fire on the town of Pryluky in the north-central Chernihiv region of Ukraine on Tuesday morning, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

In the Sumy region, two people were killed in an attack by two Russian drones in the city of Hlukhiv in the Shostka district on Tuesday morning, the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s office said on Facebook.

In the evening attack in the same area, one person was killed and another was injured in the attack on a civilian car in the city of Buryn, Oleg Grigorov.

In Russia, two people were killed and six were injured in the last 24 hours when a Ukrainian drone attacked the village of Borisovka in the Belgorod region, according to the governor Alexander Shuvaev.

The Russian Defense Ministry said it intercepted and destroyed 70 Ukrainian drones in the six hours between 05:00 GMT and 11:00 GMT on Tuesday in various parts of Russia and in Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula.

Several drones flying towards the capital Moscow were shot down, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. But in the Yaroslavl region, an industrial complex was attacked by a drone, according to Governor Mikhail Yevrayev.

On Tuesday evening, two men were injured in a Ukrainian attack on a gas station in the village of Smotrova Buda in the Klintsovsky district of Bryansk region, according to Bryansk Governor Yegor Kovalchuk, who did not specify whether the attack was carried out by a drone or a missile.
