Kim Antonelli won the Monaco Grand Prix ahead of Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton after two safety cars and a red flag finish.
The 19-year-old Italian’s fifth consecutive victory, combined with Mercedes team-mate George Russell’s 13th finish and a non-points race, put him in complete control of the championship.
Antonelli leads Hamilton by 66 points, while Russell is now two points back in third place.
After the restart, Russell dropped back from third as he had to pit when the field folded for two laps.
Pierre Gasly finished third for Alpine, but was immediately dropped to seventh with a penalty for driving on pit road.
That put Red Bull’s Issac Hadjar on the final podium ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastre, who claimed the team’s 1,000th grand prix.
The end of Madness was one of several key storylines, including:
Antonelli’s top performance to completely dominate the championship
Russell’s final streak of bad luck seems to be killing his title chances
A foul from Charles Leclerc in his home race – one he refused to admit was his fault.
Chaos caused by track damage and an unusually high number of penalties – six – for speeding drivers on pit road.
