Mohamed Salah says Liverpool must return to “heavy metal” football

Salah, who announced his decision to leave Anfield in March, told reporters in December that his relationship with head coach Slott was broken.

The winger, winner of a record four Premier League Golden Boot awards, scored 29 times in the 2024-25 Premier League as the Reds won the title in Slott’s first season in charge.

But he has been unable to match last term’s highs, finding the net just 12 times in 40 games before his final game this season. Brentford next sunday

This was under previous manager Klopp Liverpool “Heavy metal” was associated with football – a term the German used to describe his high-energy, counter-pressing style of play.

“Winning some games here and there and what not Liverpool should be about All the teams won the match,” said Salah.

Liverpool Will always be a club that is a big deal for me and my family. I’d like to see it succeed moving forward.

“As I’ve always said, qualifying for next season’s Champions League is the minimum and I’ll do everything I can to make that happen.”

Below Salah’s post, Liverpool Teammates Curtis Jones and Hugo Ektic commented with applause and handshake emojis, respectively.

Reds defender Andrew Robertson, who will also leave the club this summer, similarly wrote on Instagram: “A performance that sums up our season. A long way below the level of this club and exactly what you expect from us.”

On a personal note, he added: “But I can only thank you for the past nine years traveling up and down the country and around the world wherever we end up! See you next week for the last time.”

Former Feyenoord boss Slott has suggested that the summer transfer window will be crucial for him.

Speaking of the supporters’ disappointment after Friday’s defeat, he said: “I think they underestimate what a window can do, what a fresh start can do and I think we know very well what we have to improve on.

“I think one of the things that we need to improve on is very, very, very obvious, and I’d rather not talk about it here, but you’re actually almost forcing me to.

“If you miss nine players who could start playing football and almost all of them were starters for us or for a big part of the season, then if you can improve it in a window and add players who are playing in their second season in the Premier League, it automatically takes a lot more.”
