Misa Rodriguez: Arsenal sign Real Madrid goalkeeper on free transfer | football news

Arsenal have signed former Real Madrid captain and goalkeeper Misa Rodriguez on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old moved to north London after his Real contract expired and joins Daphne van Domselaer, Anneke Borbe and summer assistant Isabella Damme in Arsenal’s goalkeeping pool.

He made 215 appearances for Real – more than any player in the club’s history. He has 24 caps for Spain, with Rodriguez competing with Barcelona’s Cata Cal for a start in the national team.

Rodriguez started three group games as Spain won the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Rodriguez is Arsenal’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window, following moves for Damm, Georgia Stanway, Geraldine Reutler, Selina Cerci, Ona Butle and Lisa Baum.

He is Arsenal’s fourth free transfer this summer after Stanway, Battle and Ruettler.

“I am proud to join this great club,” Rodriguez told Arsenal’s official website.

“Arsenal is one of the top clubs in the world and I’m really excited to be part of the team and take on this new challenge. I want to help our supporters compete for trophies and make more history together.”

“Misa is a top goalkeeper who has performed consistently at a high level for several years,” added Rene Slagers. “As well as his technical qualities, he has great presence and communication on the pitch and we believe he will be a strong addition to our goalkeeping unit alongside Daphne, Anneke and Isabella.”
