Two Leicestershire mini-marts linked to a convicted human trafficker have been shut down by a local council after a BBC investigation exposed them.
Twana Jamal, once described as the “godfather” of refugee camps in northern France, recently ran into a group of reporters while running one of the shops in Bleby, on the outskirts of Leicester.
Journalists saw him in action. Illegally both shops, deliveries, driving a BMW without a license and clearly using a false name.
The shops – both called Candy Corner – have now been closed for 72 hours by the local council’s Blaby district under anti-social behavior rules. An application for a three-month closure will be heard at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Monday, July 6.
Jamal is believed to have sought asylum in England. He applied and told us he was “still waiting.” It is not known which name he used in any application.
UK law states that anyone who has spent 12 months or more overseas should be refused asylum.
