‘Miles away’ – Arsenal’s Kai Havertz ‘lucky’ to escape red card against Burnley

Former England goalkeeper Rob Green agreed with Neville that Havertz was lucky to stay at home.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Green said: “He’s up, both feet off the ground, high. There’s going to be a lot of people pointing at pictures of red cards.

“You talk to the players and ask them which techniques you want to eliminate and those are the ones.”

On Havertz’s challenge, Carragher said: “The fact that the referee had a good look and gave the yellow card, maybe it’s hard for VAR to go against it.

“But how the ref didn’t give a red card, I don’t know – it should have been a red card. His power is the one thing that saves him. Considering how high he is on the calf, I’m struggling to see how they’re going to pull him off.”

However, Patrick Vieira, the last Arsenal Captain Tierney feels he made the right decision to lift the Premier League trophy.

“It’s a challenge at the back and you can see the cones, but it was the right decision of the referee,” Vieira said on Sky Sports.

“There wasn’t enough force or energy for the red card. The yellow card was the right decision.”

Burnley Interim boss Mike Jackson told the BBC he felt his side should have played with 10 men.

“It’s a red card in today’s game and it’s dangerous,” Jackson said. “It could have hurt him too. It means they’re down to 10 with 20 minutes to go – we’re still in the game.”
