Arsenal owners Kroenke family have confirmed plans to offer manager Mikel Arteta a new contract as a “top priority”.
Arteta’s current tenure is due to expire at the end of next season but the club are hopeful of tying him down to a new deal, ending their 22-year wait for the Premier League title.
“Keeping Mikel around (is a) top priority,” said co-chair Josh Kroenke, who runs the club with his father, Stan.
“I think the good news for Arsenal fans around the world is that he’s enjoying the project, he’s enjoying being here and from his time as a player to now, he’s an Arsenal man through and through.”
Arsenal’s title triumph under Arteta has completed a complete transformation and they have the chance to complete a historic double in Saturday’s Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.
Kroenke added: “If there’s a single person you can trace all of this to, I’m going to give 100 percent credit to Michael, his staff and the players. It’s them.
“As much as Mikel is putting our strategies together, the players have to go play the game, they have to go and win for you.”
Arteta has experienced highs and lows since his initial appointment as head coach in 2019, but has always benefited from a close relationship with the club’s owners.

“There have been times when Mikael and I have joked, ‘Leadership can get pretty lonely,'” added Kroenke.
“So during the tough moments when I try to be there, as opposed to the really good ones, to let her and our other people know that it may feel like sometimes you’re alone, or you’re on an island or you’re going through this phase or this or that, but we’ve got your back.”
Emirates Stadium development plan
The Kroenke family, whose sports portfolio includes the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and NBA team the Denver Nuggets, also confirmed their intention to develop and expand the 60,704-capacity Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal’s owners have expertise in overseeing the construction of Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, home to the LA Rams and LA Chargers, which will open in 2020.

“Richard Garlick (Arsenal’s chief executive) is leading our conversation at the moment,” said Kroenke, who was speaking to selected media. Sky Sports.
“We have a number of new board members who are plugged in, who do those things for us in the States. They’re putting together a plan to reform Emirates right now.
“I can’t believe it’s been 20 years. My only regret in my position at Arsenal at the moment is that I never got to experience Highbury.

“We’re starting these exercises with some of our advisers. The Emirates has been an amazing stadium for us. I think we’ve taken it to a different level this year. I think that’s credit to Michael and those players.
“But there are certain characters that I want to make sure we preserve and bring back to the ground as well. I think we can do that in a very elegant way which is really beneficial for Arsenal.
“We do these things in the States in our facilities and our teams. We take great pride in that, so I think we have an opportunity to come and give Arsenal fans an improved matchday experience from where they are now.”
