Windows 11 updates may soon include fixes for multiple security features at once. Microsoft said blog post Thursday that it is now using AI to “detect potential threats in the past,” which means that “customers will see more security updates included in each release.”
Hackers, even amateurs, have them they have been using AI to quickly exploit security vulnerabilities in the past few months. Security researchers are also using AI to quickly find things, which leads to many problems, such as “Copy Fail” use which affected almost all Linux distributions in May. Similarly, when Anthropic announced its An example of Claude Mythos earlier this year, it said Mythos had already discovered major vulnerabilities in “all major operating systems.”
Microsoft says it is updating its Secure Development Lifecycle to ensure it “clearly describes AI-assisted attack strategies and exploits.” It’s also investing to “make sure we’re not disrupting innovation while we’re in a hurry,” including integrating AI throughout the security update process. In addition, Microsoft says it is “investing in new technology including Windows tools and operating systems” that will help create and validate security updates and AI, while “keeping people at risk when it comes to code reviews.”
Microsoft emphasized that while AI will play a major role in identifying and addressing security issues, developers will have to validate their findings and “make risk-based decisions” about updates.
