Microsoft Build developer conference it started todayand like almost everything the company has done in the past few years, Microsoft’s opening statement focused on AI and other closely related technologies. There is Microsoft Scout“Autopilot” from OpenClaw that can access Microsoft 365 data to work for users; several types of new AI; extended display of “What is MDASH“which is a multimodel agent scanning system” that is supposed to detect and fix software problems.
Some of this information made us very interesting, either for esoteric technical reasons or because it seems like it might be useful for those who don’t spend all their waking hours using AI tools. (Microsoft recent efforts making his machine work faster, more reliable, more useful, and less annoying has not yet come, but it has been more about other things announcements in front of it in the near future.)
On the hardware front, we didn’t get any updates to the existing devices (not counting yesterday’s announcement of the Surface Laptop Ultra), but we did get something new: the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box is a “machine PC” built around Nvidia’s new RTX Spark chip with up to 128GB of internal memory.
The Dev box looks like a cartoon or piano fell on the Xbox Series X and smashed it. Its aluminum case is designed to “double as a heatsink,” and its full version of Windows 11 Pro will include a “purpose” of mid-range updates and pre-installed tools.
This is a follow up of the type of Windows Dev Kit 2023also known as “Project Volterra.” This Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3-powered PC was actually the motherboard from the Surface Pro tablet placed in a plastic box, and it was launched together with the Arm-native versions of several Microsoft-made devices. It helped launch the Arm-based Surface devices launched the following year, which benefited from an x86-to-Arm code translation technology called Prism and a number of third-party applications that did not need to be translated first.
