Ruben Rocha Moya has also criticized his defense of the army, saying he is taking a ‘temporary leave’ to protect himself.
The governor of the state of Sinaloa in Mexico has temporarily resigned after several days was called and the authorities of the United States government in a major case involving drug trafficking that has greatly affected the relationship between the two countries.
In a short video published late Friday, Ruben Rocha Moya also denied any wrongdoing, but said he was taking a “temporary vacation” to protect himself from the US.

The case in which the prosecutors of the United States state that Mr. Rocha Moya and nine other officials directly supported the Sinaloa drug cartel in the operation of human trafficking for political support and bribery.
This support included members of the powerful group to extort and threaten candidates for the 2021 elections and to steal the papers that voted for the candidates against Rocha Moya, accusing them.
Rocha Moya is a member of Morena Claudia Sheinbaum’s party.
“My conscience is clear,” Rocha Moya said in a video message. “To my people and to my family, I can look you in the eye because I didn’t make you, and I never will.”
Juan de Dios Gamez Mendivil, the mayor of the Sinaloa capital Culiacan who was among the other officials indicted by the US, also announced his resignation on Saturday. He has denied the allegations.
Sheinbaum too pushed back on the charges, which come at a time when he is trying to manage a difficult relationship with the administration of US President Donald Trump.
On Thursday, he said his government had not been given any evidence to support the allegations, saying that the documents in the case were not enough.
“My position in this situation is this: truth, justice and security of authority,” Sheinbaum said.
He added that if “clear and irrefutable evidence” was presented, the US would still have to act “in accordance with the laws that we govern”.
Sheinbaum confirmed that his government “will not protect anyone who has committed a crime”.
“However, in the absence of concrete evidence,” he added, “it is clear that the purpose of these (US) Justice Department charges is political.”
Since taking office in January of last year, the Trump administration has pressed Mexico to do more to combat immigration and drug trafficking.
This strategy has included Washington imposing tariffs as an opportunity to confront the Mexican government.
The US State Department has also designated several Latin American drug cartels as “Foreign Terrorist Organizations”, a move inconsistent with the administration’s actions. the way of war in Latin America.
The administration has strongly argued that the gangs are driven, in part, by efforts to destabilize the US, which many experts have denied.
Sheinbaum has tread carefully with Trump, increasing cooperation in tackling the cartels while pledging to protect Mexican sovereignty. In particular, he strongly opposed the prospect of any US military action on Mexican soil.
But experts say the invitation to Mexico’s elected officials represents a major step up in the Trump administration’s strategy.
Speaking to Al Jazeera this week, Vanda Felbab-Brown, an expert on non-governmental forces at the Brookings Institution think tank in Washington, DC, said the strategy “has been seen as a very large scale, almost ‘nuclear strategy'”.
He predicted more U.S. protests could come.
