What makes Azteca unique is the power of the people.
Whether it’s hosting neutrals in Mexico, the Meida Club America or Cruz Azul, or the World Cup, the Azteca crowd is renowned for producing an eerie soundtrack unlike any other.
“It’s impossible to communicate on the field because the Aztecs are so loud around you,” said Jason de Vos, one of those who trained and coached with Mexico at the stadium, of the Canadian national team.
“The Mexicans know they have an advantage because of the crowd and they try to overwhelm you in the field.
“When you arrive, the team bus rolls under the stadium, goes down the ramp and then you go to the dressing room.
“When you walk up to the buzzer, you have to go through a very narrow tunnel and you can hear a buzzing sound like a swarm of bees.
“You go up a ladder to get out from under the field, and when you look up and see the light, you realize the noise is people.
“It’s the honking, the honking, the jumping. It’s crazy.
But that’s why you want to play football.
