Meta has launched an accessory that lets you display the company’s smart glasses on your desk or at night while they’re being recharged. The New Charging Stand listed at $59 on Meta’s website – $30 less payment case about Non-Ray-Ban Meta sunglasses – and they resemble a metal tube with a spout that you can insert glasses into while charging.
The Meta Charging Stand is not compatible with the Meta Ray-Ban Display or Oakley Meta Vanguard lenses, but several models are supported – including the Wayfarer, Skylar, and Headliner Ray-Ban models, and the new, more expensive Meta smart glasses. Estimated stock for orders appears as of Thursday, June 25th when I add a stand to my cart.
The metal shell is made from stainless steel, and has a silicone rubber pad on the bottom to help keep it from shaking on the desktop. It’s just shy of two inches, and weighs 108 grams (about the same as a bar of soap), so it would be easy to accidentally shake it one way or another. There’s also an LED light on the top of the stand that turns orange when your glasses are charging, then green when they’re empty.
You can charge your Meta glasses in as little as an hour, or quickly charge up to 50 percent within 20 minutes, according to Meta. Unlike a portable charger, this new stand requires a constant USB-C connection to charge, so it’s designed to be in a specific area of your home rather than powered on the go.
