Mercedes youngster Antonelli has won the Canadian GP for the fourth consecutive victory in F1 | Fire games

Antonelli finished more than 10 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Hamilton, who secured his second podium of 2026.

Kimi Antonelli roared to victory as the 19-year-old Italian star won the wild Canadian Grand Prix for his fourth consecutive win, just one day after clashing with Mercedes team-mate George Russell in the race.

Russell retired with an engine failure after the two title-chasing Mercedes put on a show in a thrilling battle through 30 laps, trading leads several times and coming dangerously close to joining Sunday’s race.

Then the problem came to Russell, giving Antonelli a clear path to the finish – and the race lead.

“It was a very interesting fight, to be honest, with George. We were very close,” said Antonelli. “It was very close, and it was a shame for him to lose because it would have been a great fight. But we can do it.”

Antonelli finished over 10 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton.

Antonelli opened up a 43-point lead over Russell through five of the 22 races. After Russell won the season opener in AustraliaAntonelli won China, Japan and Miamiand now Montreal.

Russell’s exit was a bad ending to a good week for the Montreal hitter last year. He took the race from pole on Saturday and started first on Sunday.

After his electrical panel died, the 28-year-old English driver threw his head over the track and slammed his fists into the front of the car before leaving the area, slapping his gloves on the ground in anger.

Russell said he wished he had “40 rounds” against Antonelli.

He said: “I liked it a lot and I thought it was good, and I haven’t had a fight like this for many years. “At the moment (championship) is his to lose, ahead of many points.

“The pressure is off. Go, enjoy every race, try to win every race, and I have nothing to lose.”

The spotlight shifted to their long-time rivals after Russell’s day, with Hamilton chasing Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in return for 2021.

The seven-time world champion found Verstappen second with six laps to go at the cold and windy Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for his best result since joining Ferrari last year.

“It’s been a bit tough this past year and a little bit, so to find our sweet spot and have a good week, it feels good,” said the 41-year-old Hamilton.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was fourth, followed by Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar.

Formula One 2026 standings

Mercedes (219) leads Ferrari (147) by 72 points in the constructors’ standings. McLaren, who were without a driver on Sunday, are third with 106 points.
