Poston, 33, squandered his advantage with four bogeys in the first 13 holes, briefly leading England’s Tommy Fleetwood on the 15th.

However, Fleetwood bogeyed the 17th and finished tied for fourth with American Sam Barnes at 10 under par, while American Wyndham Clarke, who shot 67, finished third.

American world number one Scotty Scheffler, aiming to equal Tiger Woods’ record of three consecutive titles, finished tied for 12th with England’s Justin Rose and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy.

Play was suspended Saturday due to thunderstorms, with the third round ending Sunday morning.

Poston, who was tied with Gerrard on the sixth green at nine under when play was called off, Gerrard dropped back four shots to move to 12 under.

Burns is third at seven under, with Fleetwood and Clarke – at six under – completing the top five after three rounds.
