Chelsea have agreed a deal for Manchester United striker Melvyn Mallard for around £850,000.
The 26-year-old France international is set to undergo a medical before completing his move to Stamford Bridge, where he will be reunited with manager Sonia Bompster.
Mallard is expected to become Chelsea’s third signing of the summer after a versatile spell Katie McCabe and midfielders Manaka Matsukubo.
He represents an important addition to Bombayster’s attacking options after Sam Kerr left to join American club Gotham FC.
United had hoped to keep Mallard by offering him a new contract, but he told the club he wanted to leave. They agreed a fee with Chelsea rather than risk losing him for free next summer.
Having been involved in 19 goals in all competitions last season, Mallard was statistically United’s most prolific attacker.
He knows Bompastor from their time together at Lyon, with United signing him in 2023.
