Melanie C says the Spice Girls’ 30th anniversary was ’emotional’.


Spice Girls star Melanie C said the 30th anniversary of the group’s debut single Wannabe – which fell on Wednesday – was a “very emotional day”.

The singer previously recalled to Sporty Spice that seeing the song in stores “was really exciting, because it was everything we thought it would be.”

The track went on to become one of the biggest singles of the 1990s, selling over 8 million copies worldwide and heralding the band’s girl power agenda.

“We knew exactly what we wanted to deliver, but no one thought of the scale we were going to go to,” the star told her real name, Melanie Chisholm.

“We went out and conquered the world.

We were told we couldn’t, we were told we couldn’t. But we did.

The 52-year-old was speaking at the Royal Albert Hall at the Nordhoff and Robbins Silver Clef Awards, where she was honored with the International Impact Award.

The Spice Girls celebrated Wannabe’s 30th birthday earlier this week with posts on social media.
