Mbappe equals the French duo… and Deschamps rises to the status of a Brazilian legend.

The star of “Real Madrid” continues to set records in the World Cup

French national team captain Kylian Mbappe set a double record of former “Roosters” stars Olivier Giroud and Raphael Varane by participating in the match against Sweden in the 32nd round of the current 2026 World Cup.

According to the French network Statesfoot, Mbappe made his 18th appearance at the World Cup, becoming the third most capped French player in the tournament, tied with Giroud and Varane.

Mbappe took part in the previous years 2018 and 2022, before continuing his performance in the current edition of the tournament.

The Real Madrid star can surpass goalkeeper Hugo Lloris’ record of 20 games, with Antoine Griezmann second on 19 games.

Deschamps, on the other hand, led France to 23 matches at the World Cup, becoming the second most capped manager at the World Cup, tied with Brazilian coaching legend Carlos Alberto Pereira.

Germany’s Helmut Schön tops the list with 25 caps, meaning Deschamps could surpass this number in the current edition if the Roosters continue on their way.
