Toulouse Olympic claimed bragging rights in the French derby with a 60-18 drubbing of the Catalan Dragons, scoring 10 tries.
The inaugural French-Magic WKND took place at the Stade Pierre-Fabre in Castres, where Toulouse claimed their biggest win of the year and fifth of the Super Ligue season.
Luke Polcelli, Mathieu Jussoum, Brendan Hands and Ollie Ashall-Bott each scored twice for Toulouse, while Thomas Lacans and Paul Wolburg also got on the scoresheet, as they moved six points clear of the Huddersfield giants at the bottom of the Super League table.
Crews Leeming, Mathieu Leguerre and Toby Sexton were try scorers for the Catalans, whose heavy defeat at Castres left them eighth and six points outside the play-off places.
Polcelli opened the scoring for Toulouse in the sixth minute but the Catalans led 12-8 midway through the first half, only for Toulouse to run in four tries in a remarkable 11-minute burst for a 20-point half-time advantage.
Sexton converted his own try three minutes into the second half to give the Catalans hope of a comeback, but Ashal-Bott’s 53rd-minute score and Wolburg’s try four minutes later restored Toulouse’s commanding lead.
Ashall-Bott added his second in the 63rd minute, before two late shocks in the 71st and 75th minutes extended the margin of victory for Sylvain Howles.
The only Magic Weekend fixture at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium was the all-France clash, with three games to be played on Saturday and three more to come on Sunday.
