Mason Jones: Welsh lightweight returns to UFC against Marquel Mederos in Sacramento


Welsh lightweight Mason Jones will return to action on August 22nd in Sacramento, USA when he takes on Marquel Mederos.

Jones, 31, is on a seven-fight win streak and won a fight of the night bonus In his last match against Axel Sola in March.

Jones has built a reputation for entertaining fights, picking up a fight of the night bonus against Mike Davis in his UFC debut in January 2021, as well as a performance of the night bonus for his stoppage against Bolaji Oki in September 2025.

Mederos fought Chris Padilla to a majority draw in his last bout in April and has a record of 11 wins, one loss and one draw.

Jones has a professional record of 18 wins, two losses and one no contest.

The UFC’s lightweight division is considered one of the deepest in the promotion, with Justin Gaethje defeated Ilya Topuria to win the undisputed lightweight title at UFC Freedom 250 at the White House in June.

Paddy Pimblett is the highest ranked British fighter in the division.

Another win over Mederos would solidify Jones’ desire to fight a top 15 ranked opponent in the division.

Blaenavon’s Jones spent some of his career training with Team Alpha Male in the California state capital.

Golden 1 Center is the home arena of the Sacramento Kings in the NBA.

American Anthony Hernandez will face Brazil’s Gregory Rodriguez in a middleweight bout on the same card.
