Mark Webster: Former world darts champion and broadcaster reveals rare cancer diagnosis

Former world darts champion and broadcaster Mark Webster has been diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer.

The 42-year-old, from St Asaph, North Wales, was diagnosed with hairy cell leukemia in January and revealed he was undergoing chemotherapy.

“It sounds bad when you say leukemia but… it’s got a good prognosis, 95% of cases are successful,” Webster said in an interview on Darts World’s YouTube channel.

“I’ll be given some sort of exemption at some point but that’s not going to be planned in terms of speed of recovery at the minute.”

The 2008 BDO world champion has been absent from television coverage since February but is expected to return soon.

“I feel good and I want to go back to work, but I don’t like the environment I work in,” Webster added, advising his medical team.

“It’s about doing as I’m told and being patient at the moment. It’s frustrating because I like to be busy, but hopefully it won’t be too long.”
