Manchester United are close to agreeing a deal with Atalanta for Ederson.

Atalanta manager Rafael Palladino confirmed last week that Ederson remained an unused substitute in their draw against Fiorentina as a “major club” was chasing him.

Ederson looked destined for Atletico Madrid but a pivot from the Spanish club to Wolves’ Joao Gomes has opened the door for United, who are looking to replace the outgoing Casemiro.
United continue to do background work on other midfield targets, including Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes.

“It’s easy to see why a move for Ederson would appeal to the Old Trafford hierarchy. Whether INEOS or the Glazers decide on incoming players, some financial constraints still remain.
“When other targets can cost more than £100m, a player on your shortlist is bound to make a splash for less than half that.
“This season, Ederson has managed a total of 59 tackles, 28 interceptions and occupied the defensive third of the pitch 62 times in Serie A. That puts him in the top 15 in all categories of his position, but in the Premier League, those numbers don’t even put him in the top 20 or final 20 for the first 10.
“He’s certainly not the most progressive midfielder on the ball either. He’s played just two balls all season and made 371 in the third third. Some might argue that’s not his job, but he’s replacing Casemiro who managed 13 and 436 respectively.
“If any indication was needed that Ederson could be a risky move, look at the reaction of Atlanta fans. While they appreciate what he brings to the table, they’re not cut out about potentially losing him.
“The general consensus is that anything about £40m would represent incredible value for a player they believe they can replace on the cheap.”
