Manchester United chiefs are set to recommend Michael Carrick for the permanent job.

Michael Carrick is expected to be recommended to Sir Jim Ratcliffe as a permanent boss Manchester United The club’s top management.

The 44-year-old former United midfielder Carrick has been seen as the favorite for the job after a successful spell as interim head coach secured qualification for next season’s Champions League.

United are considering delaying until the end of the season before making a decision on a replacement for Ruben Amorim, who was sacked in January.

However, The Athletic first reported that chief executive Omar Berada and director of football Jason Wilcox have concluded Carrick is the right man for the job and will tell Ratcliffe of their choice this week.

Minority shareholder Ratcliffe agrees, with United starting formal talks with Carrick before his future is confirmed.

More to follow.
