Decisive negotiations
Manchester United chiefs moved to strengthen the Portuguese Bruno FernandezThe Red Devils captain is one of Rushen’s pro league lures.
Fernandes almost left for Saudi Arabia a year ago after Manchester United were willing to listen to an offer worth around £100m from Al Hilal, who were prepared to pay around £200m for the player over three years.
It also emerged that Fernandez’s contract includes a £57million release clause for clubs abroad and the contract expires after 13 months, although United have the option of extending it by a further year.
Mercato expert Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel: “An important update I wanted to give Manchester United fans as I told them to be optimistic about Bruno Fernandes staying at the club this season.
“What I can tell you is that there are already moves behind the scenes for Bruno Fernandes to stay at Manchester United this summer and Manchester United, I understand, are going to make an effort to keep the player.”
He continued. “Connections continue. Manchester United want to continue with Bruno Fernandes. I would like to say that it is obviously a great season where he scored 30 goals, particularly 21 assists in one season in the English Premier League, making history in one season in the Premier League.
“Manchester United want to avoid temptations from across Europe, particularly from Saudi Arabia, who wanted to sign Bruno three years ago, two years ago and a year ago… so they were always interested in the player.”
“What I understand is that Manchester United have started negotiations behind the scenes to keep Bruno and ensure the player’s continuation at the club. It is the desire of the owners and management, the coach, the technical staff and his teammates. They are all very happy with Fernandes as one of the leaders in the dressing room.
