Manchester City: Khadija Shaw will leave the Women’s Super League champions this summer.

Khadija Shaw could leave Manchester City this summer as talks over a new contract have broken down.

It is a major setback for the new Women’s Super League champions, who have been negotiating with the striker for several months.

WSL champions Chelsea are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing the 29-year-old Jamaican international, who is this season’s leading goalscorer.

City Manager Andre Zeglertz said in April that he hopes Shaw will extend his contract, which expires in June.

It was also learned that there was hope that an agreement would be reached after positive discussions in January.

however, The Guardian reported, External City did not match Shaw’s demands for the length of the contract.

She was initially reluctant to leave and had hoped to retire at City, but the breakdown in negotiations means she is looking at other options.

Shaw has been the club’s top scorer for the past four seasons, scoring 19 goals in 21 games and is set to win his third consecutive WSL Golden Boot.

Manchester City declined to comment when contacted by BBC Sport.
