Man Utd transfer: Keeper Andre Onana close to Trabzonspor loan return

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is close to returning to Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan.

The deal is yet to be agreed but sources say it is 90% done. There will be no option to purchase within the contract.

Onana made 29 appearances for Trabzonspor last season after being loaned out to United in the wake of their shock EFL Cup defeat at League Two Grimsby last August. A penalty defeat at Blundell Park was his only United match of the campaign.

He ended the season by helping Trabzonspor lift the Turkish Cup for the first time since 2020.

Onana, signed from Inter Milan for £47.2m in 2023, still has two years left on his United contract and was due to return for pre-season training on July 9.

However, the 30-year-old knew head coach Michael Carrick had no chance of dislodging Sane Lammens as first choice.

With Lammens with the Belgium squad at the World Cup, the future of United’s number two keeper Altay Beindir also uncertain and promising youngster Radek Vitek hoping to get a move before pre-season training begins, Carrick could have some inexperienced goalkeepers, plus veteran Tom Heaton, for the opening friendly against Oppenheim. 17 July.
