Man City WSL title: Andre Zeglertz congratulates side on ending decade-long wait

“They’re very focused on the job. I’m not surprised but I’m proud that they’ve been able to do it. There’s a lot going on at the moment and they’ve still performed well.”

As well as pride, Zeglartz noted “relief” as City finally got their hands on the trophy after leading the table since November.

His side held off the challenge of ending their league campaign with a four-point advantage over second-placed Gunners ahead of Chelsea and European champions Arsenal.

With a chance to complete a double in the Women’s FA Cup final against Brighton on May 31, City showed why they deserved to be crowned champions with a comfortable victory over the 10th-placed Hammers.

There was nostalgia for Dominion as midfielder Laura Combs scored in her last league game before retiring from the game this summer after 19 years.

“It’s quite magical to be honest,” said the midfielder, who has also won the FA Cup and League Cup since joining the club from Liverpool in 2019.

“I’ve been here seven years. I think it’s been a long time in the making. I’m going to soak it up.

“I really feel like I’ve been a part of something.”

Coombs’ name will appear on the club’s new wall £10m training facility And among a collection of players who have made over 100 appearances for the club.

“They are really trying to build something for the future,” added the former England international. “The ride is going to be incredible to watch.”

One player central to City’s success this season has been WSL Golden Boot winner Khadijah Shaw, whose future at the club remains uncertain amid talks of a move to rivals Chelsea when her contract expires this summer.

After taking his season tally to 21 goals with a double against West Ham, the 29-year-old Jamaican striker refused to give a definitive answer on where he will play next season.

“Manchester is where I want to be, but in the end we’ll see,” said Shaw, who also holds the record for most WSL hat-tricks.

“I just want to enjoy today. It’s my first (title), there’s a lot of emotion.

“It’s been a long season of grinding, hard work, ups and downs but in the end we’re alive and I can’t wait to go and celebrate.”
