Malaysia is set to host a major tournament in October to replace the Bahrain tournament, which was canceled earlier this season due to the Middle East war.
The Sepang track, which was at the end of the 2017 calendar, is expected to represent Bahrain a week ahead of the event in neighboring Singapore near Kuala Lumpur.
The race will be held at the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.
The event is expected to be officially announced in the coming days, possibly as early as Sunday.
It has been developed by Formula 1, but has yet to go through the formal deregistration process, which also includes governing body the FIA.
Bahrain and Saudi Arabia both delayed the April race after the US and Israel went to war against Iran.
F1 had hoped Bahrain could be restored by October. However, due to logistical reasons, as the deadline to confirm a new date approached and there was no sign of the war ending, he had to make the decision to compete elsewhere.
If Malaysia is confirmed, it will mean three consecutive weekends of racing in Azerbaijan, Malaysia and Singapore.
