Maddie Cusack’s coach ‘nemesis’, her mother told the inquest.

The court previously heard that Maddy’s life was “exciting” playing for Leicester City under manager Morgan, who said she was “excited” to join Sheffield United in 2019.

But the inquest heard Morgan was “disgusted” when she learned he had joined the Blades in February 2023.

Deborah says her daughter not only plays for the Badges, but “lives and breathes” Sheffield United.

Before Morgan was arrested, she added that Maddie had become the poster girl for the club, as the Blades had put up a “huge” billboard for her saying “Love her”.

Asked about Morgan’s return, Deborah said: “Madeleine feels like history is repeating itself.

“She was devastated, and my lady was on her way back…we’ve never met a character like this before.”

The inquest heard Morgan called Maddie “bottom heavy” after joining the club, prompting her to change her diet and take up jogging after training.

Deborah questioned whether her daughter had any mental health problems in the past.

“Absolutely,” she said.

“We never had any mental health issues before. She was bright and confident – she was a normal Madeleine.”
