Maddie Cusack struggled with his girlfriend’s behavior, the investigation said

Barker told Cusack she was “nervous” about Morgan joining United in February 2023, because of her experience working with him at Leicester City years ago.

The former United captain said: “She explained to me her past experiences – that he was unprofessional, that he sold her dreams when she got there, that he wasn’t real when she got there and that he talked a lot of rubbish.

But the inquiry heard that Cusack had not spoken to Baker about matters relating to Morgan.

In June 2023, Barker said her co-worker was “quieter” and “more reserved,” adding that she “turned up and went home. She didn’t contribute much.”

“The previous season was a completely different person for Maddy, she was very bubbly.”

Francesca Carr, a physiotherapist for United Women’s at the time, also gave evidence on Wednesday and told the inquiry she had no concerns about Cusack.

“There were players who were more concerned from a mental health or coping point of view,” she told the Daily Mail.

But Kar Kusaka remembers crying when she went to the wrong training ground.

She said: “This was not a normal reaction for me. I thought it was an overreaction to what had happened. I knew it was a sign of an emotional reaction.”

The inquest heard earlier that Cusack thought Morgan had “personally attacked” her for not including her in the starting line-up.

At the inquest, self-represented Morgan asked Carr if the “mutual decision” not to field Cusack in the club’s first match because of her ankle injury was in her “advantage”.

Carr replied: “I think her not playing at that time, yes, it was to her advantage.”

The investigation is ongoing.
