Louis Barry: From Barcelona to Wembley through nine loans to Stockport

His curling effort from inside the box gave Stockport the lead in their second leg win over Stevenage at Edgeley Park as they went 3-0 up on aggregate.

“He must have the ambition to play in the Championship every week because he has the ability,” Bristol Rovers boss Steve Evans told Sky Sports after the game.

“He loves it here (at Stockport) and they love him. I think it (needs) more consistency in his game.

“I think Louis will admit it’s been a problem for him recently but he’ll get a big stage at Wembley next week.”

Barry failed to score in either of his Championship loan spells – at Sheffield United earlier this season or at Hull City in the second half of last term.

But perhaps having the opportunity to play at the second level in familiar surroundings should have its impact.

However, before that there is the small matter of next week’s play-off final against Bolton Wanderers or Bradford City.

“I’ve never been to Wembley before this season and coming back from injury, being back here with the boys and going to Wembley twice – I can’t wait,” Barry told BBC Radio Manchester.

“I think whatever happens, we’ve got the quality and we’ve got the confidence in our group that whoever we play we can get over the line,” he added.
