Annaby’s coach speaks after defeat to Bosnia
The coach of the Qatar team, the Spanish Julen Lopetegui, revealed the reasons for the defeat against Bosnia and Herzegovina and the loss of the opportunity to qualify for the 32nd round of the 2026 World Cup.
In the third round of Group 2 on Wednesday evening, the national team of Qatar lost 1-3 to its partner Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It was the Arab team’s second straight defeat in the group after a 0-6 loss to Canada, leaving them frozen by one point in fourth place and an early exit from the competition without a win.
After the match, Lopetegui told the Qatari beIN Sports network. “I have to analyze the match, but I think we played well at times. The start was not good. “Bosnia has the best wings in the European leagues.”
He added: “We had to improve our possession. However, we had enough spirit to score and we had 3 chances that we didn’t convert in the second half.”
The Spanish coach continued. “Bosnia’s third goal came from their only attack in the second half, while we controlled the game but needed to pick up the tempo.”
Lopetegui concluded his statements by saying: “In order to go far in the World Cup, you need to make fewer mistakes. However, I am proud of the players’ behavior and performance.”
