London Diamond League results: Josh Kerr breaks men’s mile world record

Great Britain’s Josh Kerr broke the men’s mile record in impressive fashion at the London Diamond League.

Having announced his ambition to break Hicham El Gurrijn’s 27-year-old record in London in March, Kerr made an emphatic display when he crossed the line in three minutes and 42.66 seconds.

Cheered on by a sell-out crowd of 60,000 at the London Stadium, the five-time world medalist came within half a second of Morocco’s mark – untouched since 1999, when Kerr was a year older.

The 28-year-old is the seventh British athlete to set the mile record, the first since Steve Cram in 1985.

More to follow.
