The Blues’ European participation does not affect the Spanish coach’s decision
Xabi Alonso’s name is still in demand at many major European clubs, despite his dismissal from the coaching staff of Real Madrid in the middle of the current season.
Alonso took over as Real Madrid manager last summer and played with them in the Club World Cup before starting the current season but was sacked after a Spanish Super Cup defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Barcelona.
According to AS newspaper. The Blues have contacted Xavi to offer him the role of new manager at Stamford Bridge. After a troubled season that saw the sackings of Enzo Maresca and Liam Rossignore
The newspaper added that the London club is looking for a young and systematic coach, and Xabi Alonso is an ideal choice.
He continued. “While Chelsea owner Bluco’s method of presenting an attractive offer is unusual for an ambitious manager like Xabi Alonso, the opportunity to join a strong Premier League club should always be considered.”
He explained that Alonso would listen to the offer and if he accepted it, the job would be his, although Iraola’s name had also been linked with the job, and in recent hours the Telegraph added the names of Glassner and Filipe Luis to the shortlist.
“AS” continued. “There is a big obstacle. Chelsea are currently out of the European Championship qualifying positions, which could affect the appointment of either coach. They have the FA Cup final as an opportunity to turn things around, in addition to the rest of the Premier League fixtures.”
“In any case, Xabi Alonso doesn’t mind leading Chelsea even if he doesn’t qualify for the European Championship, which helped him win the German league title in his first full season with Bayer Leverkusen.”
According to the Spanish periodicals, what hinders the progress is the situation of “Liverpool”. It’s true that manager Arne Slott’s season has been unremarkable, but his Premier League title triumph last year gives him enough credit to stay in the job until the summer.
It is not clear that Xavi has a strong connection to Anfield and dreams of one day managing the Reds, but for that to happen, the Liverpool manager’s job would have to become vacant, which seems unlikely at the moment.
