In an exclusive atmosphere filled with feelings of pride and dignity, the city of El Alamein turns into a platform for a great public celebration, where thousands of Egyptians gather around the airport to welcome the national team delegation after its historic participation in the 2026 World Cup finals.
Amid flags, chants and banners bearing messages of thanks and appreciation, everyone awaits the arrival of the heroes of the pharaohs who reshaped the face of the Egyptian dream on the world stage.
Thousands of Egyptian fans gathered at El Alamein Airport in preparation to welcome the Pharaohs delegation returning from the 2026 World Cup finals following the team’s historic achievement during the tournament.
The team’s delegation left the American city of Atlanta at exactly eleven o’clock in the evening, Cairo time, on a flight that will last more than 12 hours, according to the statement of the director of the team, Ibrahim Hassan.
The return flight witnessed some delays after the plane’s departure from the US was delayed by 48 minutes before its arrival at El Alamein Airport was delayed by about an hour.
“100 million thanks”
The flight crew wanted to make a special gesture to the national team players as they arranged a corridor of honor for them as they boarded the plane to warm applause from crew members while the players exchanged greetings with them in an atmosphere filled with feelings of appreciation and gratitude.
The Egyptian authorities had previously announced the organization of an official and popular reception for the team’s delegation at El Alamein Airport, and it was also decided to organize a ceremony in honor of the football players and technical staff led by Hossam Hassan in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
An open top bus has also been set aside to welcome the team delegation, with the aim of giving fans a chance to celebrate and interact with the players as they leave the airport and on their way.
The bus was in the signature red color of the Egyptian national team and had the word “Egypt” in English next to the Egyptian flag and was emblazoned with the phrase “100 million thanks” in recognition of all the players have given during the tournament.
“You have honored us”
The area around El Alamein Airport witnessed a large flow of Egyptian fans eager to receive the national team delegation after their return from the United States as an expression of their gratitude for the respectable level the team showed at the World Cup.
Fans held up banners with pictures of a number of national team players along with technical director Hossam Hasan and the words “Thank you… you honor us” written on them in appreciation of what the Pharaohs have given during their journey in the tournament.
Egypt made a historic appearance at the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, after they managed to advance to the round of 16 for the first time in their history in the expanded tournament system with performances that won widespread praise.
Egypt brought down the curtain on their journey to the tournament, losing 3-2 to Argentina in the Round of 16 after a strong performance that confirmed the great development the team has witnessed during the World Cup competition.
