Light Phone Makes Its Dumb Phone Useful With Third-Party ‘Tools’

Time and time again again, the owners of the smart phones-or small phones – turn to their communities that ask them to add something to their broken device: a verification app, Uber, or a way to track rides. They turned to these phones to reduce the time spent looking at the mobile phone and reduce the stress that is controlled by modern interest economy in their lives, but we are they still need software.

“I can’t tell you how many people have come to us and said, ‘Hey, you wish you had this to scan QR codes; you wish you had a native app,’ so they could use Light Phone regularly,” Kaiwei Tang, CEO and co-founder of Light Phone, told WIRED. “We’re a small company, we’re not Apple. We don’t have app stores and millions of apps.”

But now a Brooklyn company is taking steps to close that gap. Bright Phone starts software program in May for LightOS, the operating system is getting a new update Bright Phone III. Now anyone interested in the platform can easily create “Tools” that they want to use on the phone.

Light has been creating its most used devices since 2014 for people who feel dependent on technology. The First Light Phone only makes and receives calls, and the second added benefits as a detour. The latest iteration, is Bright Phone IIIit has evolved into modern equipment while remaining true to its bare-bones brand.

But for those people on want their dumb phone to do one more thing, the ability to add Tools is good news.

The Kuwala Phone team is already a modding and hacking hardware company. While Light only offers a few basic first-party tools, such as Calculator, Alarm, Calendar, and Podcasts, the people of the community have created it themselvesincluding a Spotify client, a ticketing app—such as a gym membership card—and a bus and train tracking app.

Now, with official software tools, it will be easy for those interested to create the software they want. You don’t need a Flash Phone III to build a platform Tool, although third-party Tools are available. only found on the latest cell phone, not the older Light Phone models.
