Lewis Coumas is Wales’ center forward of the future, says Craig Bellamy

Koumas spent the second half of the 2025–26 season on loan at Hull City, helping them win promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.

The Liverpool academy product was previously on loan at Birmingham City and Stoke City, where he predominantly played on the left.

But while Wales are heavily stocked with the likes of Daniel James, Harry Wilson, Brennan Johnson, David Brooks and Sorba Thomas among their options, they lack a genuine striker.

“We started him (as centre-forward) against Northern Ireland (friendly draw in March), I thought he was fine,” added Bellamy.

“When he came in today, he had to tidy up a bit but that’s normal.

“I see him as a real future player for Wales who is going to have a big say. I’m delighted for him.”

After missing out on World Cup qualification with a play-off semi-final defeat at home to Bosnia-Herzegovina in March, Wales will finish their season with a friendly against Romania on Saturday (18:45 BST).

Meanwhile, Ghana, drawn in a group alongside England, Croatia and Panama, will travel to the United States to prepare for their World Cup campaign.

Asked about the Black Stars’ prospects for the tournament, Bellamy said: “You have a tough team, a new manager (Carlos Queiroz).

“You have some important players who were not involved today. I like Inaki Williams, (Antoine) Semenyo. You are a dangerous team in transition because you are always on the top line – Ghana have done that for several years.

“If you can keep it tight… the ability to counter-attack… your first game is Panama, your tournament will be decided in that game. If you can win a match, you can go to the knockout stage.

“Croatia and England are going to be really tough matches. You never know the way you support your team.”
