Lethal Weapon actor Danny Glover reveals Alzheimer’s disease

Famous American actor Danny Glover has revealed that he has been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for several years.

In the year The 79-year-old said in an interview with NBC that they got the diagnosis “shortly” after the 2022 Oscars. Although his movement, speech and memory have slowed, Glover said he is still active.

“I can live with it,” Glover said in a pre-taped interview. I’m sure things will vary and change as it progresses.

Glover, a four-time Emmy winner, is best known for his roles in the Lethal Army series and the film The Color Purple.

In an interview with former NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt on The Today Show, Glover and his family said they want to help change the stigma surrounding the disease by speaking out.

“I think it’s very important for him to be in control of his own narrative and life story,” Glover’s daughter Mandisa said. “This is very important. And now is the time, what better time for him to speak for himself?”

Glover is just one of the 7 million people in America over age 65 living with Alzheimer’s disease — a form of dementia that affects memory, thinking and behavior. The symptoms become more severe and interfere with daily activities.

Black Americans like Glover are twice as likely as older white Americans to develop Alzheimer’s or other dementias, according to the Alzheimer’s Association of the US.

In an NBC interview, Glover reflected on his acting career — which began in his early 20s — and has earned him more than 170 acting credits.

Glover was known for his roles in films including 1984’s Places of the Heart and 1985’s The Color Purple.

With his passion for social justice, the actor founded a production company to produce and finance politically relevant films.

“We have challenges in the world,” Glover said in an interview Wednesday. “I think art can be an improvement, that way of looking at it, you know?”
