Yamal is currently the number one star in Spain
Young Spanish winger Lamine Yamal (18) is set to play his first World Cup, where he is expected to lead La Roja’s ambitions at the 2026 World Cup after proving himself as one of the world’s hottest talents in recent seasons.
Spain have high hopes for the Moroccan-born player to help them win their second World Cup after being crowned in South Africa in 2010.

Early international brilliance
Yamal was born in Spain to a Moroccan father and an Equatorial Guinean mother on July 13, 2007. He was in high demand to represent the Atlas Lions, but in the end he chose the European national team.
The Barcelona star explained that his decision was made because of his upbringing in Spain and his desire to compete in European tournaments such as Euro 2024, which he won.
Yamal played for the first time with the Spanish national team in September 2023 and has since become an important element of the team.
Yamal has played 25 matches for La Roja so far, scoring 6 goals and providing 12 assists and has been one of Spain’s most popular players at Euro 2024.
The “Barcelona” star participated in two matches and made 3 goal assists in the qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Yamal’s total participation in “Barcelona” reached 151 matches in all competitions, during which he scored 49 goals and made 45 assists.
The numbers for the 2025/2026 season were as follows:
Spanish Championship. He played 28 matches (26 starts), 16 goals, 11 assists and 2262 minutes.
Champions League: 10 matches, 6 goals, 4 assists.
Total number of competitions: 45 matches, 24 goals and 17 assists.
These numbers show a marked improvement from the 2024/2025 season, especially in terms of goalscoring, where he scored 18 goals and provided 25 assists in 55 appearances in all competitions.
Physical condition
Yamal suffered a left hamstring injury during Barcelona’s match against Celta Vigo in April 2026, ending his season prematurely.
However, Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has confirmed that the player is making progress in his rehabilitation program and is expected to be ready for the national team’s opening game against Cape Verde in Atlanta, USA on June 15.
The draw for the 2026 World Cup has drawn Spain into Group Eight with Saudi Arabia, Uruguay and Cape Verde.
