The 2014 World Cup champion criticized some of coach Julian Nagelsmann’s choices
Former Germany captain Philipp Lahm has expressed his belief in the need to make a change in the starting line-up of the “Machines” during the 2026 World Cup, calling for Alexander Pavlovic to be removed from the starting line-up and Joshua Kimmich to return to midfield.
Lam said in statements to the magazine “Special” German. “The midfield was particularly unstable… Aleksandar Pavlovic didn’t really convince me in this tournament. I noticed a huge amount of losing the ball in simple situations. He also doesn’t occupy the best positions on the pitch.”

He continued. “That’s why I think Joshua Kimmich should play in midfield. He has played in this position at the highest level for nearly ten years, whether with the national team or Bayern Munich. He will give the team more stability and his potential will be greater.

The former right defender of Munich “Bavaria” continued. “Felix Nmecha is the most suitable option next to Kimmich at the moment. Therefore, Pavlovic should be removed from the starting line-up.”
Lam concluded by saying: “I will play Waldemar Anton in the right-back position and Kimmich in the midfield position. Playing Kimmich at full-back doesn’t do justice to his potential. His leadership and strengths are needed in the midfield.”
Germany lost to Ecuador (2-1) in their last group match, after already qualifying for the round of 32, where they will face Paraguay next Monday night.
