The former “Arsenal” star expresses his displeasure
French football legend and current TV analyst Thierry Henry has clarified the authenticity of the statements attributed to him after France’s (2-0) defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup semi-finals, stressing that they are fabricated and have no basis in truth.
Henri said through his Instagram. “I had to put an end to some rumors and things circulating on social media about what I said about the French national team.”

The 1998 World Champion hit out at “false statements” attributed to him on the X platform after the France-Spain match, which claimed he called France’s performance “shameful”, spoke of a lack of “courage and dignity” and criticized “hidden leaders”, stressing that the statements were completely fabricated by several media outlets.

The former star of “Arsenal” and “Barcelona” said, according to the network “RMC” French. “It’s very easy to put someone’s face and add quotes without having a video of what the person actually said. It’s easy to fool people. Look at yourself. We’re in 2026.”
He added: “A lot of people make up stories. So please, again, before retweeting or reposting and commenting, make sure it’s true.”
Henry continued from his hotel room in New York, where he had arrived to cover the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina;
He concluded by saying: “I will publish what I actually said and you will see that it is completely different from what has been circulating especially in Europe, this is not nice at all and the so-called media should check before reposting and tweeting.”
