Kyiv was hit by missile and drone attacks overnight, with at least two people killed and 11 injured as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of a “major” Russian attack.
Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko, writing on the Telegram news platform, said that the roof of the hotel caught fire on Thursday morning.

Pictures posted online showed flames burning on top of the building in the center of Shevchenko Boulevard.
“Kyiv is being attacked by missiles and UAVs,” wrote Klitschko, using a term for unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones.
Klitschko later said that 11 people were injured, and some were trapped in a 9-story apartment building, and the roof of another apartment building caught fire.
The AFP news agency later reported that two people had been killed in the attack, according to city officials.
Images shared on the unofficial Telegraph channel showed residents of the town flocking to underground stations to escape the Russian assault.
AFP reporters in central and eastern Kyiv reported hearing more than a dozen explosions as the Ukrainian military warned that stray missiles were approaching the city.
On the streets, people were seen heading to shelters, carrying sleeping mats in their hands, according to AFP.

The attack in Kyiv came just hours after Zelenskyy warned of a “massive Russian attack” and urged Ukrainians to take cover.
“Today, we have information about another serious Russian threat; we have important information,” Zelenskyy said at a press conference in Dublin with Ireland’s Taoiseach Micheal Martin on Wednesday.
Writing on X, Zelenskyy said: “As soon as I finish the negotiations, I will return to Ukraine”.
He asked citizens to “be very careful” and “be safe and protect your families and children” by listening to flight alerts.
“We know that (Russian President Vladimir) Putin has been planning to fight for Ukraine for some time. This is what we are facing tonight,” he added.
Zelenskyy also criticized Russia for “refusing to end the war” it started in February 2022, although Ukraine tried through “all official and unofficial means” to explain the preparation of “reasonable meetings and discussions”.
Putin “sees increasing violence against Ukraine and other neighbors and all of Europe,” Zelenskyy said.
